MANILA (DPA): Southeast Asian foreign ministers mediating the
Cambodian crisis made progress in New York toward bringing back
the exiled royalist forces, but no agreement was reached, a
spokesman for Foreign Affairs Secretary Domingo Siazon said
yesterday.
On returning Thursday, Siazon said delegates representing the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) worked hard in
between the United Nations General Assembly meetings in an
ongoing bid to find a solution acceptable to Cambodian strongman
Hun Sen and ousted First Prime Minister Prince Norodom Ranariddh.
Although both sides gave positive indications of allowing the
20 exiled leaders of Ranariddh's FUNCINPEC Party to return to
Cambodia, Siazon's spokesman Oscar Valenzuela said, "This is not
enough. The discussions are still going on."
