Profits of Rp350 Million Per Hectare: Titiek Soeharto Says Brebes Shallot Exports Could Serve as a National Role Model

Jakarta, VIVA – The Chair of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Siti Hediyati Hariyadi, also known as Titiek Soeharto, made a special visit to the shallot industry centre in Brebes Regency, Central Java.

Titiek directly observed the process of turning shallots into value-added products, such as fried shallots and shallot paste. According to her, these processed products are not only popular in the domestic market but also exported.

“It turns out that we have abundant shallot yields. Alhamdulillah, we can export,” said Titiek Soeharto in a statement, quoted on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.

She added that the processed shallot products from Brebes Regency have been exported to Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and even Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, she said, the profits earned by the farmers are quite substantial.

“The farmers say that their capital is Rp40 million per hectare, and their yield is Rp350 million per hectare. So, the profit is very large,” she said.

Furthermore, Titiek explained that shallots are not only sold raw but are also processed into products such as fried shallots and shallot paste. She added that these processed products are exported to Saudi Arabia to meet the needs of Indonesian pilgrims.

“It turns out that the shallot paste is exported to Saudi Arabia to be used as a seasoning, perhaps for our pilgrims there. So, the prospects for shallots are very good in Indonesia,” she explained.

Titiek added that stable demand keeps shallot prices relatively stable, so that if there is a surplus in production, it can also be supplied to foreign markets.

“If the price is high, Insya Allah, there will always be demand, and if there is a surplus, it can be exported. So, there is always a market,” she added.

Therefore, Titiek hopes that the shallot industry will not only be concentrated in Brebes Regency but can also be expanded to other regions in Indonesia to provide added value to domestic products in the global market.

“I hope that it is not only in Brebes that shallots are grown, but it can be developed in other regions so that our exports can also increase further,” she said.

Furthermore, Titiek noted several urgent needs when she spoke with the farmers. She said that the farmers requested support for the construction of cold storage facilities to maintain quality and price stability during the harvest season, as well as the availability of superior seeds and fertilizers.
