Profile of Bripda MS, Brimob Officer Suspected of Fatally Assaulting Madrasah Student
A member of the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) identified as Bripda MS is suspected of committing an assault that killed a student of MTsN Maluku Tenggara, named Arianto Tawakal (14).
The incident reportedly occurred after the pre-dawn meal during Ramadan near RSUD Maren Hospital, Tual City, Maluku, on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
Bripda MS, who serves in Company 1, Battalion C Pelopor of the Maluku Regional Police's Mobile Brigade Unit, has been taken into custody for legal proceedings.
The incident began when two siblings, both madrasah students, were passing by on a motorcycle. Without clear explanation, Arianto was allegedly struck on the head with a helmet by Bripda MS. The blow caused the victim to lose control and fall, suffering a severe head impact.
Several witnesses reported that Arianto experienced bleeding from the nose and mouth before being rushed to Karel Sadsuitubun Hospital. However, his life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead on Friday, 20 February 2026.
Meanwhile, the victim's older brother, Nasri Karim, sustained a broken right arm and remains in intensive care. He denied reports suggesting that he and his younger brother were involved in illegal street racing, stating that the incident occurred suddenly without any prior warning.
The case has attracted widespread public attention. Bripda MS has been secured by Tual Police and detained for investigation purposes. The Maluku Regional Police stated that criminal proceedings are running concurrently with a police professional ethics review.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirmed that legal proceedings against the Brimob officer would be conducted openly.
"It is currently underway. I believe matters such as these involving our personnel will be handled transparently," Sigit said on Saturday, 21 February 2026.
Maluku Regional Police Chief Inspector General Dadang Hartanto conveyed his apologies to the victim's family and the people of Maluku. He affirmed that the case would be handled with the utmost seriousness.
"We extend our condolences and offer our sincerest apologies to the victim's family. This tragedy is a matter of serious concern for us and will be handled earnestly," Dadang said.
If found guilty of serious misconduct, Bripda MS could face disciplinary sanctions up to and including dishonourable discharge.
