The PPA Unit of the Southeast Sulawesi Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, Brigpol Firgha Amaliyah Ghazali, is regarded as a dedicated policewoman in handling cases of violence against women and children. For this reason, she has been proposed as a candidate for the 2026 Hoegeng Awards.

The proposer is AN, the parent of the child victim of harassment. AN reported the harassment case experienced by her child to the Southeast Sulawesi Police in 2025. AN’s report was processed by Brigpol Firgha. Here is her testimony:

In handling the case I reported, she was very good and highly dedicated, even on a holiday (Sunday) she still examined the witnesses I proposed. She always provided support and encouragement to my child (the victim) to be brave in speaking out and reporting the criminal act of harassment that my child experienced. She also prioritised my child’s (the victim’s) comfort during the examination to complete the investigation. She is a policewoman who upholds the values of honesty and justice towards victims. Thus, I, the reporter, especially as the mother of the victim, felt brave and comfortable in reporting the crime experienced by my child, and she also provided very positive things to the victim, especially the reporter.

Contacted separately, AN recounted how her report was processed and served well by Brigpol Firgha. According to her, Brigpol Firgha’s dedication is excellent due to her bias towards women and children who become victims of harassment.

“The witnesses I proposed, including expert witnesses and psychological doctor witnesses, were available (for examination) on Sunday, so on Sunday she (Firgha) was willing to take the BAP. Other investigators can’t take BAP on holidays, right, it’s the weekend, so we’re disturbing her rest. But she adjusted to the witnesses I brought,” said AN to detikcom on Friday (13/3/2026).

Brigpol Firgha is also said to be very flexible in examining witnesses. According to AN, if there is a witness unwilling to be examined at the police office, Brigpol Firgha does not mind coming directly to the relevant party’s location, whenever and wherever.

In addition to being dedicated in carrying out her duties, Brigpol Firgha is a very humble policewoman in AN’s eyes. For that reason, AN was not hesitant or afraid during the process from her report until the child harassment suspect was charged with maximum criminal punishment.

“She is a humble person, kind, meaning we reporters are usually faced with investigators in a way that makes us hesitant, afraid, but with her, alhamdulillah, no. My child also gave a statement as a victim, alhamdulillah, it went well without fear. The witnesses I brought all also had no fear,” said Firgha.

“Usually children are afraid to face the police, but alhamdulillah, the mother (Firgha) is not like that. So the child feels comfortable,” she added.

Brigpol Firgha’s Story

Brigpol Firgha is a candidate for Hoegeng Corner 2025. She has been involved in handling hundreds of PPA cases since 2016, meaning for 10 years Brigpol Firgha has handled cases of violence that make women and children in Southeast Sulawesi victims.

“Because I have been assigned to PPA for a long time, it has carried over to daily life. Moreover, now cases in Kendari for sexual or physical violence against women and children are increasing year by year, especially the reports coming into the Southeast Sulawesi Police,” said Brigpol Firgha to detikcom on Thursday (9/10/2025).

For years, Brigpol Firgha has been the officer conducting investigations and prosecutions of reports related to violence against women and children received by the Southeast Sulawesi Police. According to her, many viral cases of violence against women and children have been handled and uncovered until the suspects were given maximum criminal sentences.

“There are many (viral violence cases), like the recent one where a baby was thrown on the floor, done by a woman. Then the viral case of mobbing a child thief of a gas cylinder,” said Brigpol Firgha.

“Then there are some involving close family members. Recently, the sexual harassment by a foster father who is still a caretaker of a boarding school, that is still in process until now,” she added.

Brigpol Firgha mentioned there have been hundreds of cases of violence against women and children handled since 2016. Because, she said, every year Brigpol Firgha receives dozens of public reports that she personally takes responsibility for uncovering.

“I have been in PPA since 2016, for cases usually we are in 1 SP investigation, so for SP investigations there are already hundreds, but for some cases handled personally. So we are responsible, but others still help, that’s called 1 SP investigation, 1 sprin. So every year we get dozens (case handling),” she said.

She recounted the challenges of being an investigator and prosecutor of PPA cases. According to Firgha, she is vulnerable to lawsuits from parties dissatisfied with the results of the investigations of the cases she uncovers. But Brigpol Firgha is confident she has carried out her duties well and correctly.

“So that takes up time again because we have to handle the files again, even though these files have already been sent to the prosecutor’s office, so we have to deal with the court again. Not to mention if reported to Propam, so we have to deal with Propam again, whereas that disrupts our daily duties,” said Firgha.

In addition, Brigpol Firgha mentioned that the challenge of handling PPA cases in Southeast Sulawesi is the travel distance to the incident locations from the Southeast Sulawesi Police, which can be tens of kilometres. Not only that, the archipelago region of Southeast Sulawesi also requires her to cross the sea to pick up the ball in handling cases.

“Like the TPPO in 2022, a report of human trafficking where children were taken to Wakatobi to work in clubs, we went by land from the Police, then circled to Wakatobi, which is an island
