Professionalism, respect: Ericsson
Transfer of technology and being a technology trendsetter is a business commitment of PT Ericsson Indonesia, an international communications company. Thus it is quite natural if Ericsson dominates the market and mobile telecommunications network. "This is supported by our dedication to creating professional performance, respect and perseverance," said Director of Mobile Phones and Terminals, Susanto Susilo, and Customer Director for PT Ericsson Indonesia, Ade S.B. Sharif.
They also acknowledged Ericsson's ability to attract people's attention to the development of telecommunications industry in Indonesia.
"Ericsson's fast growth in the last two years is proof of its capability, which is marked by an increase in inquiries and sales," Susanto said.
"Ericsson covers 50 percent of the total cellular phone market in Indonesia. Ericsson's cell phone products, such as GH 198, GH 688, GF 768, GF 788c and SH 888, are popular with people.
"People choose these products for their good quality, concern for research and development and a high standard of service. Even in 1999, Ericsson plans to realize seven new cell phone products."
In order to be able to cover the market, Ericsson constantly follows telecommunications industry developments and counts on marketing, advertising and customer service. It was the first company to introduce a cellular system to Indonesia, and Ericsson is ready to compete in an open market.
Susanto and Ade also admitted that the country's critical economic condition has had a bad effect on the industry, but said Ericsson will continue, with the support of 325 professional and well-trained staff.
Ericsson consistently increases the knowledge and expertise of its staff with research programs and well planned training. This is to keep up the staff's capability to create a global telecommunications network and to fulfill consumers' wishes. "It's about communications between people, the rest is technology," said Ade.
Today, Ericsson offers the new T 28 dual-band mobile phone. The T 28 is based on new technology and design platforms and is set to mark a watershed in the development of cellular technology. With advanced functions, including voice control, automatic world clock and new battery technology, the T 28 is one of the most fully featured cell phones available.
The T 28 is the smallest GSM mobile phone developed by Ericsson to date. The interior of the phone contains new functions, which will simplify efficient communications for the consumers. One of the many new features is Voice Dialing, which lets the user contact someone simply by saying a name.
Advanced software has been developed to ensure the user interface is faster and easier to navigate. Examples of some new features are the Profiles, which lets you adjust the phone to different situations. You can restrict certain calls or allow certain calls to get through during a meeting or choose different ring signals and volumes, including the Vibrating Alert. The phone is also developed to handle 37 languages.
Based on a new 3-volt platform, batteries are made from lithium polymer, a technology that Ericsson is first to bring to the market. Talk time is estimated at up to four or five hours and standby time is up to 200 hours.
Ericsson has developed an all-new series of accessories to complement the T 28, which can best be described as "intelligent accessories" in that they provide more than the usual functions. For instance, just by placing the phone in the vehicle hands- free, the Profiles feature can automatically activate "vehicle mode", that is, turning on the light in the display and turning up the ring signal so tha it can be heard through traffic noise.
