Jakarta, VIVA – The government is once again focusing on flexible working policies amid efforts to balance national productivity and energy efficiency. The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) has officially issued an appeal to private companies, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and regional public enterprises (BUMD) to adopt a work-from-home (WFH) system for one day per week.

This policy is outlined in the latest circular, which also serves as a guideline for businesses in adapting to modern work patterns.

Manpower Minister Yassierli stated that this appeal follows directives from President Prabowo Subianto, aimed at strengthening energy resilience while promoting efficiency in the work environment. In its implementation, the policy still provides flexibility for companies to adjust to their respective operational conditions.

” Leaders of private companies, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and regional public enterprises (BUMD) are urged to implement work-from-home for workers or labourers for one working day per week,” said the Minister during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

Although it is an appeal, the government emphasises that WFH implementation must not interfere with workers’ rights. Wages, salaries, and other entitlements must still be paid in accordance with applicable regulations. Additionally, this policy does not reduce workers’ annual leave rights.

Companies are also requested to ensure that performance, productivity, and service quality remain maintained even if some activities are conducted from home. For the technical implementation, the government provides flexibility to each company.

“And finally, the technical implementation of WFH is regulated by each company,” said the Minister.

Regarding the circular, the government has stipulated that not all sectors can apply the WFH scheme. Several sectors must still carry out activities directly due to the nature of work that requires physical presence. Here is the list of exempted sectors:
