KOMPAS.com – Muhammad Tito Karnavian, head of the Task Force for Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) following the Sumatra disaster, emphasised that the concept of national resilience and government social concern has grown increasingly stronger.

This was reflected in the distribution of ambulance assistance from the private sector through the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).

Tito made the statement during an ambulance handover ceremony for disaster-affected regions held at the Ministry of Health office in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

On this occasion, 31 ambulances and various medical equipment from the private sector were handed over to regional public hospitals (RSUD) and community health centres (puskesmas) in disaster-affected areas.

The Interior Minister stated that support from the non-governmental sector is an important part in accelerating post-disaster recovery.

“This is because we are handling this major disaster with our own national strength,” he said in a written statement received by Kompas.com.

Tito added that the involvement of the business world in providing assistance also demonstrates high social concern and the spirit of mutual aid to help affected communities.

The donors providing the ambulance assistance include PT Astra International Tbk, PT Indomobil Trada Nasional, and Yayasan Imeco Bhakti Nusa.

On the other hand, Tito appreciated the swift action taken by the Ministry of Health in restoring health facilities in disaster-affected areas.

“Because the Minister of Health went down directly, and also sent volunteers – I met many volunteers, even in the mountains – and that has been very helpful,” Tito said.

In addition, the government is still targeting the completion of restoration of several health facilities at the village level.

Based on collected data, there are still auxiliary health centres (pustu) that are undergoing treatment.

Not only focused on restoration of health facilities, the government also paid attention to healthcare workers affected by the disaster.

Tito also emphasised the importance of accelerating the distribution of assistance to healthcare workers so they can remain focused on providing services to the community.

For information, the event was also attended by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and the Ministry of Health team, as well as representatives from donors and regional governments receiving the assistance.
