The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has stated that it is ready to conduct the Academic Ability Test (TKA) for primary and secondary education levels in April, with a total participation rate of 98%. Head of the Education Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment Agency (BSKAP) of Kemendikdasmen, Toni Toharudin, mentioned that almost 98% of students in primary and secondary levels are ready to take the 2026 Academic Ability Test (TKA). “The participation percentage for TKA at the primary level is 98.96%, at the madrasah ibtidaiyah (MI) level 97.90%, at the secondary level 98.04%, and at the madrasah tsanawiyah (MTs) level 97.54%,” said Toni when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday. He explained that this percentage covers the number of TKA participants at the primary/MI/equivalent level, amounting to 4,452,983 students, and at the secondary/MTs level, 4,207,516 students. Toni assessed that the high participation percentage of primary and secondary students in the TKA indicates an increase in awareness among schools and parents regarding the importance of the assessment in measuring and improving national education services. This is because the TKA for primary and secondary education levels will be combined with the National Assessment (AN), so the test not only measures students’ academic achievements but also aims to measure the quality of education across all educational units and regions. “If I think positively, that every school, even every teacher and student, has better student culture awareness, and that’s what we hope for. If the student culture is already good, then improvement in quality will be easier, because we can identify each weakness and reflect on it,” he said. His side also noted that 9,637 primary education units will host their students at other schools to take the TKA due to limited facilities and infrastructure. Meanwhile, at the secondary level, 1,546 educational units will host their respective students at other schools due to the same conditions. “The number of hosting schools at the primary level is 9,637 (5.59%) and the number of hosting schools at the secondary level is 1,546 (2.5%),” said Toni. For information, the implementation of TKA at the secondary level will take place from 6-16 April 2026, while TKA at the primary level will take place from 20-30 April 2026. Each participant will undergo the TKA exam over two days, with the first day covering mathematics and numeracy subjects as well as a character survey, and the second day covering Indonesian language literacy and sulingjar survey (learning environment survey).
