Prices of Staple Goods at Pasar Baru Bekasi Rise, Disperindag: Still Within Normal Range
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — The Bekasi City Department of Trade and Industry (Disperindag) says the price increases for several commodities at Pasar Baru, in East Bekasi District, remain within a normal range even though traders have started to complain.
Head of the Trade Section at Disperindag Kota Bekasi, Eko Wijatmiko, said prices at Pasar Baru Bekasi remain relatively stable and have not shown worrying spikes.
‘This is still within normal limits, yes. Because the consumer price index or IHK for Bekasi City is currently at 11.76,’ Eko said when contacted by message on Friday (22/5/2026).
‘Usually price rises are due to delays in the distribution process, and it can happen in supplier areas that have not yet harvested, leading to volatility issues,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Trade Division at Disperindag Kota Bekasi, Rini Desmiati, said the government has yet to determine the exact causes of price increases for a number of staple foods in the traditional market.
‘There is no definite cause yet. And there has been no research indicating the rise is caused by global war,’ Rini said.
According to Rini, local government interventions can only be taken if prices rise significantly for several consecutive days.
She explained that as a form of attention and aid from the government, the Bekasi City Government through the Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Department has been running the Low-Cost Food Movement programme in several districts, selling staple foods below market prices.
Earlier reports noted that several traders at Pasar Baru Bekasi had complained about price increases in staples in recent months.
On the other hand, traders have also complained that the market is increasingly quiet, causing sales turnover to fall drastically.
Pasar Baru Bekasi supervisor Syaiful Ridwan said that, in general, the prices of essential goods at Pasar Baru Bekasi remain relatively controlled and food stocks are in a safe condition.
