Prices of Several Foodstuffs in Banyuwangi Increase During the First Week of Ramadan
Price increases for foodstuffs have occurred in traditional markets in Banyuwangi during this week of Ramadan. The Regent of Banyuwangi, Ipuk Fiestiandani, together with the Regional Communication Forum, monitored prices and the availability of essential goods in traditional markets on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
“We are checking to ensure that price stability and the availability of essential goods are maintained in the market, because during Ramadan, prices usually increase,” said Regent Ipuk at the Blambangan Market, Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
The price monitoring was carried out by Ipuk along with the Banyuwangi Police Chief, Commissioner Rofiq Ripto Himawan, Head of Bank Indonesia Jember, Iqbal Reza Nugraha, and Head of the Banyuwangi Branch of Bulog, Dwiana Puspitasari, as well as representatives from the Indonesian Army and Navy in Banyuwangi.
In the first week of Ramadan, several commodities experienced price increases. For example, the price of eggs has increased to IDR 31,000 from IDR 27,000-28,000. Beef prices rose from IDR 125,000 to IDR 145,000, and chicken prices rose from IDR 30,000 to IDR 36,000.
Chili, which had previously risen to IDR 130,000/kilogram, has now fallen to IDR 98,000. Red onions also increased to IDR 45,000-48,000/kg. Meanwhile, the prices of several commodities remained stable, including sugar at IDR 17,000/kg, cooking oil at IDR 17,500-19,500/liter, garlic at IDR 30,000-35,000/kg, premium rice at IDR 74,500/5 kg, and medium rice at IDR 68,500/5 kg.
Ipuk said that the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) will continue to monitor the movement of essential goods prices. “To control prices, we, together with relevant stakeholders, continue to hold large-scale affordable markets throughout Ramadan, evenly distributed throughout the sub-districts. Please take advantage of it,” said Ipuk.
The Head of Bank Indonesia Jember, Iqbal Reza, said that the dynamics of rising prices for several essential commodities are still within reasonable limits. So it does not have the potential to cause inflation. “We ask TPID to hold affordable markets in order to control prices,” said Iqbal.
Meanwhile, the Police Chief, Commissioner Rofiq Ripto Himawan, said that so far no indications of hoarding of essential commodities have been found in Banyuwangi. “We will also help ensure the smooth distribution of essential goods and other community needs during Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr,” he said.
