Prices of Bird's Eye Chilli in Blitar Rise to Rp71,000, Chicken at Rp42,000 per Kilogram
Blitar, East Java – Food prices in Blitar City, East Java, have continued to rise ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026. Among them is bird’s eye chilli, which briefly fell sharply but only held that price for one day before surging again in traditional markets.
Bird’s eye chilli prices in traditional markets across Blitar City now stand at between Rp71,000 and Rp75,000 per kilogram, after previously dropping to as low as Rp50,000 per kilogram.
“Yesterday, Sunday (15 March 2026), wholesale prices suddenly fell to Rp50,000 per kilogram,” said Sutinah, a vegetable and spice vendor at Legi Market in Blitar City, on Monday (16 March 2026).
“But today they’ve risen again to Rp71,000 per kilogram.”
Over the past month, wholesale bird’s eye chilli prices have never dropped below Rp70,000 per kilogram. During that period, prices have fluctuated between Rp70,000 and Rp105,000 per kilogram.
“It is rather unusual. Yesterday it suddenly fell from Rp75,000 to Rp50,000,” she said.
“But the drop only lasted one day. Now it’s already surged again.”
In addition to bird’s eye chilli, large red chilli has also seen price increases over the past week, rising from Rp30,000 per kilogram to Rp40,000 per kilogram.
These prices represent wholesale rates at the vendor level. Sutinah noted that vendors typically add a markup of around Rp2,000 per kilogram when selling to consumers.
Meanwhile, curly chilli has remained relatively stable with no significant price spikes.
“Curly chilli is stable with no surges. Currently it’s priced at Rp25,000 per kilogram,” she added.
“It’s been Rp42,000 per kilogram for the past three days,” said Sugiarti, a chicken vendor at Legi Market.
“But I’ve just received information that tomorrow the wholesale price will rise by one thousand rupiah to Rp43,000 per kilogram.”
Krisdiana, a chicken vendor at Templek Market, noted that chicken price increases actually began in earnest approaching Ramadhan approximately one month ago, when prices stood at Rp42,000 per kilogram.
During the middle of the first week of Ramadhan, prices briefly fell to Rp38,000 per kilogram.
However, entering the second week of Ramadhan, prices have climbed again and now stand at Rp42,000 per kilogram.
