Presidential Palace Affirms No Plans to Restore Old KPK Law
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has affirmed that, to date, the government has no plans to revise the KPK Law and restore it to its previous version.
Prasetyo said there have been no internal government discussions on revising the KPK Law, including during President Prabowo Subianto’s meeting with former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad.
“There are none. There was absolutely no discussion about that,” said Prasetyo after attending a coordination meeting on flood recovery in Sumatra at the parliamentary complex on Wednesday (18 February).
When asked about the support of Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo, Prasetyo was unfazed. He emphasised that the discourse on revising the KPK Law had no connection to Jokowi.
“What does this have to do with Pak Jokowi? Nothing. There’s nothing,” he said.
Jokowi had previously responded to the proposal for the old Corruption Eradication Commission Law to be restored to its pre-revision form.
The proposal was put forward by Abraham Samad Riyanto, KPK Chairman for the 2011-2015 period, during a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at Kertanegara on Friday (30 January). Jokowi welcomed Abraham Samad’s proposal.
He even claimed he was not involved in the revision of the KPK Law in 2019. At the time, he said he did not sign off on the revision.
“Yes, I agree, that’s good,” Jokowi said after watching a Persis Solo match against Madura United at Manahan Stadium in Solo on Friday (13 February).
