Presidential Instruction to KAI CEO: Accelerate Inventory of Trackside Settlements and Preparation of Decent Housing Solutions
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto’s inspection of the trackside area near Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta on Thursday (26/3) marks the beginning of accelerated improvements in that area.
The President issued instructions to the President Director of KAI to conduct an inventory of residents’ settlements along the tracks, starting from the Pasar Senen area and expanding to all similar routes managed by KAI as a basis for directed planning.
In addition, the President stressed the need to prepare structured housing solutions through collaboration with relevant ministries, both in the short and long term.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is following up on these instructions by securing the area around the tracks and conducting an inventory of the areas and residents as part of the planning process.
“KAI supports the President’s instructions through the inventory of residents’ settlements around the tracks and area security. We are coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions, as well as with ministries and other parties for long-term steps,” said KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin.
For the Pasar Senen area, KAI will conduct checks and further studies as an initial stage, which will then be expanded to other points along the railway tracks.
The planning of trackside areas is aimed at providing decent housing while creating a safer and more orderly environment around the tracks.
In line with this, KAI also plays a role in improving the living standards of the community through more structured area planning, connected to economic centres, and strengthening access to economic opportunities around the tracks.
“Planning settlements around the tracks is an important part of creating a better environment for the community as well as strengthening railway travel safety,” added Bobby.
KAI manages more than 327 million square metres of railway land that has potential to support housing development. In the Jabodetabek region, the development potential reaches around 131,000 housing units located near transportation hubs.
“KAI is following up on the President’s instructions through three main steps, namely the inventory of residents’ settlements around the tracks, securing railway areas, and collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions and with other parties for long-term steps to support decent housing and improve community living standards,” Bobby concluded.
