Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Visits Victims of Bekasi Train Collision, Addresses Issue of Illegal Level Crossings
Jakarta, Kompas.com - The Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), General TNI (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman, visited victims of the accident involving the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train and KRL, who are being treated at RSUD dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid in Bekasi City, West Java.
According to a KSP statement on Wednesday (29/4/2026), Dudung aimed to ensure healthcare services, fulfilment of compensation rights, and coordination steps for infrastructure improvements following the incident.
After visiting several victims still under treatment, Dudung explained that the purpose of his visit was to ensure the quality of healthcare services and medical actions for the victims still being treated.
“I saw that the hospital’s response was quick, and then ensured how the rehabilitation system and post-treatment for these victims would be handled,” Dudung said.
In addition to ensuring medical handling, Dudung paid great attention to the victims’ rights regarding compensation.
He also ensured the smooth provision of compensation involving various parties, namely BPJS, PT KAI, and Jasa Raharja insurance.
Furthermore, Dudung ensured that communication processes between ministries and related institutions regarding victim handling could proceed synergistically.
Dudung emphasised that this visit also serves as a bridge of communication between the West Java Provincial Government and the central government.
Meanwhile, in response to questions about the existence of illegal level crossings that could endanger train travel, Dudung stated that the government would check comprehensively before taking action.
“We will check it comprehensively, so if things like this emerge, we will certainly communicate with security elements and so on,” added the former TNI Army Chief of Staff.
The train accident at Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi City, involving the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek on the Gambir-Surabaya Pasar Turi route and the electric rail train (KRL) PLB 5568A on the Jakarta-Cikarang route, on Monday night (27/4/2026), caused profound grief.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the collision between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and the KRL was suspected to have originated from an incident at a level crossing approximately 200 metres from Bekasi Timur Station.
