Jakarta (ANTARA) — President Prabowo Subianto received 12 leaders of the world’s largest companies to strengthen strategic investment partnerships during a meeting held in Washington DC, United States, on Friday (20 February) local time.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, who also serves as Chief Operating Officer of BPI Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, explained that the 12 companies in attendance collectively manage total assets under management of approximately US$16 trillion (around Rp270 quadrillion).

“We have just concluded a session in which the President met directly with 12 of the world’s largest investment firms — there were 12, with combined assets under management of approximately 16 trillion US dollars,” Rosan told reporters following the meeting.

Rosan said the meeting lasted nearly two hours and covered a range of topics, including Indonesia’s efforts to improve its investment climate, economic and political stability, and future policy direction.

During the forum, each company provided input on policy consistency, law enforcement, capital market development, and various measurable risks requiring attention.

The sectors identified as key areas of potential cooperation include technology, renewable energy, infrastructure, real estate, the digital economy, and entrepreneurship development.

“The discussion was very fruitful, very productive,” he said.

Rosan stated that Danantara continues to engage in intensive communication to explore further cooperation opportunities with these global investors. Danantara’s presence is seen as a local partner capable of providing comfort and confidence for international firms looking to invest.

“Until now, these major investment firms have perhaps not been optimally engaged. They have invested more heavily in other countries,” Rosan said.

“With the presence of Danantara, they also see the potential for Danantara to serve as a local partner, and that provides comfort and confidence because we can invest together not only in Indonesia but also outside Indonesia,” he added.

Chief Investment Officer of BPI Danantara, Pandu Sjahrir, added that investor interest in investing and collaborating continues to grow, including exploration of the possibility of establishing direct representative offices in Indonesia.

Pandu said discussions with the 12 major global firms had already progressed towards concrete partnerships that would be announced at the appropriate time.

“All of these have not yet been announced, but they are indeed partnerships that will be disclosed when the time is right,” he said.

Pandu further noted that the company executives had travelled from various locations — including Los Angeles, New York, London, and across Europe — to meet and hold discussions with the President in person.

Neither Rosan nor Pandu provided details on all 12 companies that met with President Prabowo. They mentioned only a few investors, including the majority owner of football club Chelsea, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as a major investor in leading artificial intelligence research company OpenAI.

“One of them is the majority owner of Chelsea, and the Lakers and Dodgers were also represented. He pledged to bring Chelsea and the Lakers to Indonesia for cooperation and to hold matches,” Rosan said.

“One of them is one of the largest investors in OpenAI. They discussed how OpenAI could be applied to our sectors to improve efficiency,” Pandu said.

Rosan said President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the personal attendance of the CEOs and presidents of these prominent firms, which he viewed as demonstrating their confidence in Indonesia’s investment climate.

“The President was very appreciative and pleased because those who came were genuinely CEOs or presidents themselves. And we were also happy because they truly attended in person — not second-tier representatives, but truly the top level,” he concluded.
