JAKARTA: Singaporean President Ong Teng Cheong arrived in the Indonesian town of Padang in West Sumatra yesterday, starting a three-day visit to the province, Antara reported.

Ong, who arrived with his wife and 13 senior officials, was greeted at Padang's airport by West Sumatra Governor Hasan Basri Durin and was whisked away to a posh hotel built by an Indonesia- Singaporean joint venture.

Ong is scheduled to play golf at the Anai resort golf and country club some 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Padang on Tuesday before visiting the Bungus fishery port and Sikuai island, Antara said.

The president and his wife will fly back to Singapore Wednesday afternoon, the agency said.
