President Invites Major US Firm to Boost Medical Equipment Investment in Indonesia
Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto has invited one of the largest companies from the United States to increase its investment in producing medical equipment in Indonesia as a cooperative opportunity.
Whilst attending the Gala Iftar Dinner Business Summit in Washington DC on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, the head of state explained that multinational corporation General Electric (GE) has an opportunity to explore cooperation following the establishment of ten new universities focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and medicine.
“I believe there are also opportunities for the United States. I believe General Electric also manufactures medical equipment in Indonesia, and we hope they will increase their production,” Prabowo said, as quoted by Antara on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
“It would take 14 years to close that gap, unless there is a genuine new effort. That is why I am creating these 10 new universities, which will be based on STEM and medicine,” Prabowo explained.
During a previous state visit to the United Kingdom, the President established a cooperation framework in the field of education, including the construction of ten new campuses for medicine and STEM, as well as lecturer exchanges from Britain.
With the increase in medical campuses and medical graduates, Prabowo assessed that there are cooperative opportunities to be forged with US conglomerate GE Company, including in the area of medical equipment.
The President expressed support for new investment and confirmed that bureaucratic obstacles previously raised by investors have been resolved.
“We will support it. There were bureaucratic obstacles, but we resolved them very quickly. I also received feedback a few hours ago from several corporations who complained about the slowness in resolving their problems,” Prabowo said.
