President forms Batam free trade zones council
Batam (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has established the Free Trade Zones Council for Batam, Bintan and Karimun of Riau Islands province here on Monday (May 12), a governor said.
"According to Minister/State Secretary, that is true, but I haven`t yet read the contents," Ismeth Abdullah, Riau Islands governor told Antara through SMS (mobile phone short messages) Monday night regarding the note on the setting up of the council.
The governor said further that the council members are the provincial governor, the police, navy, army, regional law and human rights office, customs and excise office, defense representative office, taxation office, prosecutor`s office, regents and mayors.
The governor expressed hope that the trade zones council could trigger an increase in the value of investment in the province which is adjacent to Singapore.
Meanwhile, Nada Faza Soraya, chairwoman of the provincial chamber of commerce and industry (KADIN) also hailed the establishment of the trade zone council. (*)
