Presenting Police Reform Progress, Jimly: President Agrees to Strengthen Kompolnas
Jakarta, VIVA – Chairman of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, stated that President Prabowo Subianto has approved the proposal to strengthen the National Police Commission (Kompolnas). This aims to increase the effectiveness of oversight over the police institution.
“Mr President strongly agrees to the strengthening of Kompolnas,” said Jimly at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
Jimly acknowledged that strengthening Kompolnas is crucial to provide legally binding force to every decision and recommendation issued. Additionally, the strengthening of Kompolnas will be regulated in legislation.
“The Indonesian Republic Police Commission will be strengthened so that its decisions and recommendations are binding. And its membership will no longer be ex officio as it is now, but agreed to be independent, so the oversight function over the police becomes effective, more effective in the future. And this must be regulated in legislation,” said Jimly.
Jimly added that the new points from the commission’s reform work will soon be integrated into valid legal frameworks. Currently, the process has entered the stage of preparing regulations to be discussed with parliament.
“Well, it has been decided that in the legislation, it will be submitted for the preparation process, and even now there is a draft bill ready to be discussed in the DPR. We just insert the new points from this reform commission’s results there,” said Jimly.
