Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government plans to send 100 students to continue their studies abroad through the Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) Jakarta scheme. “In the initial stage, we will send approximately 100 students. From there, I will allocate quotas for Betawi children and Jakarta natives. After all, as the capital city and in accordance with the law, we must also provide opportunities for them to study abroad,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday. The plan aims to broaden access to higher education through the LPDP scholarship scheme. The programme will be implemented in cooperation with the central LPDP. Pramono stated that his side has held several meetings with the central LPDP to formulate the implementation mechanism for the programme. In fact, this week, Balai Kota officials are finalising the cooperation concept, which is deemed to have found a clear path. “Regarding LPDP, I have held several meetings with the central LPDP. This week, Balai Kota officials are also formulating how this LPDP can be carried out, and a solution has already been found,” he explained. He revealed plans to establish LPDP Jakarta as a regional scholarship programme that will complement existing education assistance schemes. The programme is expected to serve as a strategic instrument in enhancing the quality of human resources in the capital. According to him, LPDP Jakarta will focus on supporting high-achieving students, particularly from the Betawi community, to pursue education up to the highest levels, both domestically and abroad. To date, the DKI Provincial Government has had education assistance programmes such as the Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP) and Kartu Jakarta Mahasiswa Unggul (KJMU). However, previously, both programmes only covered undergraduate (S1) level education. Now, Pramono assured that the scope of those education assistance programmes has been expanded to master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) levels. For overseas studies, it will still be focused through the LPDP scheme managed jointly with the central government. “Both KJP and KJMU can now be used for S2 and S3. However, for abroad, it must go through LPDP, which will be regulated by the DKI Jakarta Government in cooperation with the LPDP of the Ministry of Finance,” Pramono said. With the establishment of LPDP Jakarta and cooperation with the central LPDP, he hopes to open wider opportunities for Jakarta’s young generation to access global-quality education, while strengthening the international competitiveness of human resources.
