Prayers and Greetings for the Day of Arafah on 26 May 2026
This year, the Day of Arafah, commemorated on 9 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH, falls on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. Alongside acts of worship, many Muslims share prayers and greetings for the Day of Arafah as a means of spreading awareness and reminding others to increase their piety.
Special Significance of the Day of Arafah
According to the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Day of Arafah is when Hajj pilgrims stand in Arafat Plain, the climax of the Hajj pilgrimage. This day holds great honour in Islam and is a recommended time for increased prayer and remembrance of Allah.
The MUI’s official website states that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) described the best prayers as those offered on the Day of Arafah. Therefore, Muslims are encouraged to utilise this time to seek forgiveness, mercy, and blessings from Allah.
For Muslims not performing Hajj, the Day of Arafah is associated with fasting on the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah. According to a hadith from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), fasting on this day expiates the sins of the previous and coming years.
In addition to being a blessed time, the Day of Arafah is an opportunity to increase good deeds, recite takbir (glorification of Allah), engage in dhikr (remembrance), and strengthen family ties ahead of Eid al-Adha.
