Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has confirmed that he will take firm action and eradicate all forms of thuggish behaviour that troubles the capital’s residents.

Incidents of thuggery in Jakarta have come to light in recent days, with the latest being the viral case of a ‘street tough’ extorting food vendors and bajaj drivers in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.

“Yesterday, those who carried out the extortion, whether against vendors or bajaj drivers, have all been arrested,” said Pramono at the Office of the Unit for Investigation, Testing, and Measurement of the Road Infrastructure Department of DKI Jakarta, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/4).

Pramono assured that the DKI Provincial Government apparatus will not stand idly by and is ready to collaborate to maintain regional conduciveness.

He emphasised that the regional government apparatus will ensure similar extortion incidents do not recur in the future.

“And the DKI Jakarta Government provides full support for such matters so that they do not happen again,” said Pramono.

Furthermore, Pramono issued a stern warning to rogue elements who still dare to engage in extortion.

As the regional head, Pramono has given the green light to security apparatus to sweep clean the thugs throughout Jakarta to create a sense of security for residents.

“So, as the Governor of Jakarta, I am also providing support to take firm action against thuggery to anyone in Jakarta,” said the man who once served as Cabinet Secretary.

Previously, police arrested three suspected thugs who went viral for extorting a porridge seller and smashing bowls in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. The three are now secured at the Tanah Abang Police Sector.

The incident occurred on Thursday (9/4). In the circulating video, the perpetrators were seen extorting vendors and damaging their goods, including smashing the porridge seller’s bowls.

In addition, police have also arrested a suspected thug who extorted bajaj drivers, with footage of the act going viral on social media.
