Pramono's quip to Veronica Tan: Tell Pak Ahok that the Sumber Waras issue has been resolved

JAKARTA — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung delivered a light-hearted quip, asking Veronica Tan, Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) and former wife of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), to relay a message to the former Jakarta governor who served from 2014 to 2017.

Pramono asked Veronica to convey that the Sumber Waras land issue, which had been a point of contention during Ahok’s governorship, has now been resolved. The moment came as the two attended Cap Go Meh celebrations in Glodok, West Jakarta, on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

“I will continue all the good things from previous governors. From Pak Ahok—coincidentally there is Bu Vera—please tell Pak Ahok, Ma’am. I have finished what is called the Sumber Waras,” Pramono said.

Addressing Sutiyoso, the governor who served from 1997 to 2007, he said the monorail project that had stalled has now been put right. “From Bang Yos, the monorail is in good order. The 109 monorail pillars have been tidied up; at the latest, it will be completed by June,” he said.

Meanwhile, to Fauzi Bowo, Pramono hoped the Majelis Kaum Betawi (MKB) would soon unite, in line with strengthening Betawi identity as Jakarta’s principal culture, in accordance with Law No. 2 of 2024 on the Special Capital Region of Jakarta.

He also confirmed that the renovation plan for the Husni Thamrin Museum would soon be realised.

To Anies Baswedan, Pramono alluded to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), describing it as a major legacy. “The legacy of Mas Anies is the JIS. Now we have built transport links to facilitate it. The KRL will stop at JIS. The station is finalised; hopefully it will be completed soon,” he said.

He added that JIS is now connected to Ancol to address parking problems. The inauguration of this connectivity is planned for May.

He said the site is ready to host an international hospital, though its official name will be announced later. “What used to be a burden, alhamdulillah now Sumber Waras has been completed in full, ready for the construction of an international hospital whose name I will announce in due course,” Pramono said.

Pramono’s quip drew laughter from Veronica and other guests. Veronica also appeared flushed.
