Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung issued a stern warning to residents returning to their hometowns during the Lebaran migration not to give excessive expectations to relatives regarding life in the capital. Whilst Jakarta is indeed open to newcomers, Pramono emphasised that competition in the capital requires preparation and the capacity to “fight their way through”.

The message was delivered by Pramono whilst sending off approximately 35,000 free migration participants from the National Monument (Monas) area in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 March.

“Jakarta is open to anyone who wants to come. However, do not promise something that tempts or create expectations that not everyone can compete for in Jakarta,” he said firmly.

Nevertheless, he assured that the Jakarta Provincial Government would not conduct justice operations against new arrivals following Lebaran. According to him, Jakarta has long been a destination for people from various regions, including himself and the current government administration.

Additionally, Pramono reminded all migration participants to maintain order, security, and comfort during their journey. Pramono hoped that the migration momentum would proceed smoothly without significant obstacles.

“Sir, Madam, brothers and sisters, whoever will return to their hometowns, I urge you to remain orderly throughout the journey, maintain security and comfort,” Pramono said.

The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to implement the Free Migration Programme 2026, facilitating homebound travel without high transportation costs. The programme has been expanded with increased quotas through collaboration with various parties, and registration procedures have been made more transparent. The province provided 521 bus units with 22,403 seats for the 2025 Free Migration Programme, with migration destinations covering 20 cities and regencies across Indonesia. The government also provides transport for those wishing to bring motorcycles.
