Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has emphasised the importance of operational safety for Transjakarta. He highlighted ongoing accidents in the field, one of which is due to drivers falling asleep.

“Some incidents in the field, collisions, drivers drowsy, then people utilising Transjakarta lanes resulting in such scrapes pose a particular challenge for Transjakarta to rectify,” said Pramono at the 12th anniversary event of Transjakarta at the Tosari Transjakarta Halt, Central Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026).

He called for Transjakarta to take firm action against negligent drivers and operators. The DKI Provincial Government, he said, will fully support such enforcement.

“Issuing warnings, sanctions for operators or drivers who are negligent, and I have several times directly asked the Director General to take such firm actions,” Pramono stated.

On the same occasion, Pramono also spotlighted Transjakarta’s achievements, now serving around 92.5 per cent of Jakarta’s area with a daily passenger count reaching 1.4 million people.

According to him, Transjakarta’s contribution to Jakarta’s transportation and economy is highly significant. He noted that every Rp1 trillion investment in this sector can generate an economic impact of up to Rp3.2 trillion.

“The total economic impact generated reaches Rp73.8 trillion. This is an extraordinary contribution,” said Pramono.

On the same occasion, Transjakarta’s President Director, Welfizon Yuza, stated that 20 Transjakarta drivers will be sent to Japan for training. This is to improve service quality and driving safety.

Welfizon mentioned that this programme is prepared through the Transjakarta Academy by selecting the best drivers.

“The Transjakarta Academy is currently preparing 20 of our best Transjakarta drivers to be placed for an exchange in Japan. So that they will bring new standards to Indonesia,” said Welfizon.

In that programme, the costs for making driving licences and driver certification are covered by Transjakarta through CSR funds.

“One of our focuses is to rejuvenate drivers in Mikrotrans. From the process we went through yesterday, there are 125 people who will be placed,” said Welfizon.

The Transjakarta Academy itself is an official vocational training institution focused on enhancing the technical abilities and soft skills of drivers and operational staff, through training programmes such as New-Skilling, Re-Skilling, and Up-Skilling.
