Pramono Wants Betawi Culture Included in School Curriculum
Jakarta, VIVA – Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has stated that he will incorporate Betawi culture into the school curriculum. This announcement was made during his attendance at the Grand Silaturahmi of the Betawi People at the M.H. Thamrin Museum in Central Jakarta on Sunday.
“What I aim to do is introduce local content education. It is truly unfair that in Jakarta, we lack local Betawi content in education,” said Pramono. The PDIP politician revealed that he will coordinate with the Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office to develop this initiative. Furthermore, the Jakarta Provincial Government will involve Betawi cultural experts in the discussions.
“I will request that the Education Office prepare for this, and it will naturally be done in collaboration with the Betawi community,” explained Pramono.
In his view, Betawi cultural education should be implemented from the school level. The objective is to help children gain a better understanding of Betawi heritage and the City of Jakarta. Meanwhile, Pramono noted that the promotion of Betawi culture is already underway through art studios across Jakarta.
Additionally, he expressed a desire for Betawi traditional foods to be properly documented. This would enable the public to become more familiar with them. “We are now in the era of gastronomy, so hopefully this will be documented effectively,” clarified Pramono.
“And this will ensure that, as a global and inclusive city, Jakarta's Betawi culture becomes recognised worldwide,” he concluded.
