Pramono to Take Firm Action on Noisy Padel Court Next Week
Residents in the Haji Nawi area of Cilandak, South Jakarta, have complained about noise generated by a padel court in the neighbourhood. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has ordered the facility to be monitored and has vowed to take firm action.
“I have specifically asked the relevant agencies to carry out on-site supervision regarding this padel court matter,” Pramono told reporters at Taman Semanggi, South Jakarta, on Friday (20/2/2026).
He said a decision on the fate of the padel court would be made next week, noting that the facility had neither received community approval nor obtained complete permits.
“On Monday or Tuesday, we will promptly decide on padel courts that disturb public order, that have not received the approval of local residents, and whose permits are incomplete. The DKI Jakarta government will take firm action,” he said.
Residents’ Complaints
A local resident named Naufal (27) spoke of the noise disturbance. Naufal said his family had repeatedly lodged complaints through the JAKI application.
“I initially submitted one report in November, one in December, and then in January and February I was filing reports three times a week through JAKI. Because of the many reports we had filed, we managed to meet with the management on 31 January, but the mediation did not produce any results,” Naufal said when met at his home on Thursday (19/2).
Naufal explained that noise from the padel court had been present since its construction and continued during play. He said the noise was frequently audible from early morning until late at night.
“There is shouting, mainly the sound of the ball, and the shouting goes from 6am to midnight. But it should be noted that the 6am to midnight timeframe was during the initial period, meaning January to early February. After that, they committed to stopping at 10pm, but on several occasions we found them still laughing and playing past 10pm,” he said.
Naufal said that in his neighbourhood, three houses are occupied by his parents, siblings, and his 90-year-old grandmother. There is also a neighbour who has recently given birth.
“Yes, everyone living here is complaining. They can’t concentrate during prayers, can’t concentrate getting ready — even taking a shower becomes difficult. Getting ready for work, gathering energy for the next working day — all impossible. And the stress makes everyone short-tempered,” he added.
Naufal said his mother had experienced a spike in blood pressure, something that had only occurred recently. “My mother’s blood pressure went straight to 200 — that’s a real, measurable figure, not just a feeling,” he said.
Padel Court Operator Responds
The operator spoke out following the uproar over noise complaints on social media, promising to install sound insulation.
Fajar Ediputra, a representative of PT Kreasi Arena Indonesia (Fourthwall), said operating hours during the fasting month would be reduced to 2pm to 7pm, down from the previous 6am to 10pm.
“We are limiting our operating hours during Ramadan by approximately 50 per cent. This is also intended to show greater respect for our neighbours,” Fajar told reporters on Thursday (19/2/2026).
The operator also pledged to install soundproofing to address the complaints, requesting time for the installation.
“We will reinforce our walls so that the sounds generated from the padel court can be contained inside and do not disturb the surroundings,” he explained.
