JAKARTA — The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) will issue a circular letter requesting residents travelling home for Eid 2026 to report to local neighbourhood officials before leaving their homes.

The policy was announced by Governor Pramono during a meeting at the Jakarta Education Office on Jalan Gatot Subroto on Thursday, 26 February 2026.

“We will issue a circular letter to be signed by the Regional Secretary, requesting residents who are travelling to report first, whether to their neighbourhood head (RT), sub-neighbourhood (RW), or village head (kelurahan),” Pramono stated.

During the exodus season, many homes remain empty, creating vulnerability to criminal activity. In response, the provincial government will not only require reporting but will also reinvigorate neighbourhood security patrols (siskamling).

“Secondly, to maintain security whilst preserving the neighbourhood environment, we will reactivate the neighbourhood security system during the exodus period,” he said.

Although the circular has not yet been formally issued, Pramono noted that residents can already begin reporting their departure plans to local officials.

“This can certainly be done now. So if residents wish to travel, we welcome them to report to their local RT/RW,” he explained.

For the outbound journey, the provincial government will provide 366 buses, an increase from 293 buses in 2025. For the return journey, 295 buses from 20 destinations will be made available with a capacity of 11,800 passengers, also higher than the previous year’s 228 buses.

The provincial government will also facilitate motorcycle transportation, providing approximately 15 lorries to transport around 50 motorcycles during the outbound journey and 15 lorries for the return journey. Motorcycles must be registered in three clusters based on destination, with participants required to submit their vehicle registration documents.

Through the reporting policy and strengthened neighbourhood security measures, the Jakarta Provincial Government hopes to maintain environmental security whilst thousands of residents depart for the Eid 2026 exodus.
