Pramono Targets Rorotan RDF Plant to Process 1,000 Tonnes of Waste Daily, Reducing Burden on Bantargebang
Jakarta, Indonesia - The Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting the waste processing facility at RDF Plant Rorotan, North Jakarta, to be capable of processing approximately 1,000 tonnes of waste per day.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that should Rorotan achieve the capacity to process 1,000 tonnes of waste daily, the impact would be considerable in reducing the waste burden from Jakarta that has traditionally been sent to the Bantargebang Final Disposal Site (TPST).
“If 1,000 tonnes can be processed at Rorotan, that would already be highly significant for reducing waste sent to Bantargebang,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, 9 March 2026.
The government hopes that the commissioning process will be completed promptly so that the facility can begin normal operations.
“At Rorotan we are currently undertaking commissioning. Hopefully it will be completed soon so that Rorotan can operate normally,” Pramono continued.
According to him, although the capacity may not immediately reach initial plans, the ability to process approximately 1,000 tonnes of waste daily would already be highly beneficial in reducing the burden of waste shipments from Jakarta.
With this capacity, the Rorotan facility is estimated to be able to reduce waste shipments to Bantargebang by approximately 1,000 to 1,500 tonnes per day.
This situation is making the capacity of the final disposal site increasingly constrained.
“So 1,000 tonnes per day would already be very good for operations at Rorotan at this time and that would reduce waste significantly, perhaps by around 1,000 to 1,500 tonnes,” he said.
As a result, the Jakarta Provincial Government continues to make efforts to reduce dependency on Bantargebang, including by constructing waste processing facilities within the city and promoting waste sorting from source.
“If 1,000 tonnes can be processed at Rorotan, that would already be highly significant for reducing waste sent to Bantargebang,” he reiterated.
