Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the handling of the waste piles at the Kramat Jati Main Market is targeted to be completed within a week. “Regarding the waste handling in Kramat Jati. Hopefully, in seven to eight days, it will be finished,” Pramono said when met in the Asem Market area, Central Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026). According to him, the waste accumulation occurred because transportation was temporarily disrupted due to a landslide at the Bantargebang TPST. Pramono explained that the landslide in zone 4A of Bantargebang caused a chain reaction, preventing waste from Kramat Jati from being directly transported. “This is currently being handled, indeed due to the impact from zone 4A in Bantargebang, which then led to a chain of events up to today, and that’s what happened,” Pramono said. Similar waste mountains were known to have occurred in January 2026. At that time, the waste height reached six metres due to a shortage of transport fleets. On Sunday morning, waste was still visible piling up high with no transportation activity. The current waste height is estimated to reach around six metres. The piles even exceed street lighting and the height of passing trucks. In addition, the foul smell from fruit and vegetable waste is strongly pungent, disturbing the comfort of traders around the Temporary Waste Collection Site (TPS). Meanwhile, at the waste mountain location, a warning sign installed by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry was visible. “Warning: this area is under the supervision of environmental supervisory officials,” the sign stated.
