Pramono Targets Activation of Rawajati–Tanjung Priok Railway Line This Year
JAKARTA — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has targeted the completion of the project to reactivate the railway line from Rawajati to Tanjung Priok this year.
The old non-electric line is planned to be optimised into an electric railway to improve transport connectivity in North Jakarta.
Pramono stated that the plan has been discussed with PT KAI and received instructions from President Prabowo Subianto.
Pramono explained that the project focuses on optimising existing assets, not building new lines. The line to be used is a non-electric railway track that has not been widely utilised in the past.
According to him, reactivating this old route is expected to help improve the public transport system in North Jakarta.
“More or less, it’s the old track but made electric. So, the one that has never been utilised from the old days, passing through Kota Tua then to Tanjung Priok and so on, via JIS and such,” said Pramono.
In the initial phase, the track length is estimated at around 16 kilometres. In the subsequent phase, it will be expanded to about 28 kilometres.
“This is not new construction, but utilising the non-electric train to become electric. And it will significantly change transport in the north,” he explained.
This new route will also be incorporated into the transit-oriented development (TOD) concept for the Kota Tua area.
“From now on, TOD for Kota Tua has been prepared by us, including ease of transport. So, there will be, besides MRT, electric KRL,” Pramono revealed.
“Thus, in June it will become a birthday gift for Jakarta, people going to watch at JIS will become much easier,” he concluded.
