Pramono Submits Environmental Protection Bylaw for 30-Year Plan
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has submitted a draft regional regulation (Raperda) for an Environmental Protection and Management Plan (RPPLH) to the Jakarta Regional Legislative Assembly. This regulation will serve as the foundation for development and spatial planning policies over the next 30 years.
“The RPPLH is a long-term planning document spanning 30 years, which serves as the basis for integrating development and spatial planning policies,” Pramono stated during his speech at the full session of the Jakarta Regional Legislative Assembly on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Pramono explained that this initiative ensures every development process prioritises environmental conservation whilst supporting sustainable improvement in public quality of life and guaranteeing the continuity of natural resources for future generations.
“Taking into account various strategic environmental issues and Jakarta’s development direction, the vision of the Jakarta RPPLH is ‘A Safe, Healthy, and Sustainable Environment towards a Global City for All’,” he outlined.
To realise this vision, three main objectives have been established. First, improving environmental quality and strengthening environmental support and absorption capacity, along with increasing the abundance of biodiversity assets.
“In its preparation, an Optimistic Scenario has been set as the final target for the next 30 years. This scenario is developed through phased and progressive development transitions, serving as an anticipatory framework to realise Jakarta’s vision of a sustainable environment,” he explained.
Pramono noted that this scenario is based on a commitment to support Jakarta’s transformation into a sustainable global city with high environmental resilience. The achievement will be accomplished through a progressive transformation pathway, where each decade represents a phase of strengthening environmental capacity and quality.
