Pramono seeks to expand Jakarta Student Excellence Card (KJMU) for postgraduate studies
Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has expressed his desire for the Jakarta Student Excellence Card (KJMU) to be extended beyond undergraduate level to encompass Master’s and PhD programmes.
“In fact, I have already requested from Bu Nana (Head of the Jakarta Education Office) that KJMU not only be used for undergraduate studies, but also for Master’s and PhD levels,” Pramono stated at the Jakarta Education Office on Thursday (26 February).
According to the governor, education is paramount in addressing income inequality in the capital. Pramono reflected on his own journey, noting that as the son of a teacher from Kediri, it would have seemed virtually impossible for him to aspire to leadership in a major city like Jakarta without quality education.
He expressed his commitment to ensuring that children in Jakarta have high aspirations and a bright future. “For me personally, education is the key for people to advance and to overcome misfortune within their families, because I have experienced this myself,” Pramono said.
Beyond expanding KJMU, the governor is determined to enable Jakarta’s youth to study abroad. By exposing them to the world, he believes they will develop broader perspectives. To this end, he announced plans to establish a provincial scholarship programme modelled on the national Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP), scheduled to commence in 2027.
Pramono stated that discussions regarding the programme are underway and meetings with national LPDP leadership are taking place to develop an appropriate framework for Jakarta’s own scholarship scheme. The provincial government is targeting the programme to initially support 100 recipients.
