Pramono Restricts Padel Court Operations in Residential Zones to 8pm Maximum
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has restricted the operations of padel courts located in residential zones to a maximum of 8pm Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
Padel courts in residential zones are required to hold a Building Approval Certificate (PBG). Pramono has instructed mayors and sub-district heads to negotiate with local residents.
“Negotiate with residents and set a maximum time limit for padel court operators — they may not operate beyond 8pm. So for all padel courts in residential areas, even those that have already obtained a PBG, the maximum is 8pm,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (24 February).
He stated that if padel courts in residential zones generate noise pollution, operators must soundproof the facilities.
“If a padel court creates noise from bouncing balls and shouting that disturbs the community, then such courts in residential areas are obliged to install soundproofing. The sound of bouncing balls must not disturb surrounding residents,” he said.
Furthermore, buildings or padel courts without a PBG will face activity suspension, demolition, and revocation of business licences.
In total, there are 397 padel courts in Jakarta. The governor suspects that some courts do not possess a PBG.
“We have indications that there are — the exact figures will be confirmed by Citata (the Spatial Planning, Public Works and Land Agency) — padel courts that do not have permits or do not hold a PBG,” he said.
Pramono has also prohibited the construction of new padel courts in residential zones, stating that new facilities must be built in commercial zones.
New padel court construction must also obtain a technical permit from the Youth and Sports Agency.
“Most importantly, for future new padel court construction, developers must first obtain technical approval from the Youth and Sports Agency. This will serve as a reference so that not just anyone who wants to build a padel court can simply go ahead and build one in Jakarta,” he said.
