Pramono Rejects Negotiations to Open Padel Courts Beyond 8pm
Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has restricted padel court operating hours in Jakarta’s residential areas to 20:00 WIB, with no allowances for extensions even if operators request negotiations. The rule applies particularly to padel courts located within housing complexes. Some courts operating in residential areas already hold Persetujuan Bangunan Gedung (PBG), but their operations must still comply with the new rules. In addition to the time limit, operators must install sound dampening to minimise disturbance to nearby residents. Pramono stressed that the government will not grant permits for new padel courts in residential areas and those operating without permits will face sanctions, including cessation of activities, demolition, or revocation of business licences. For new padel court developments, operators must obtain initial technical approval from the Dinas Pemuda dan Olahraga DKI Jakarta. The aim is to more orderly development of sports facilities in Jakarta and to prevent ad hoc constructions. The provincial government also prohibits building padel courts on government assets or in Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH). As of 23 February 2025, 185 padel court buildings in Jakarta had not secured official permits. Jakarta Timur City Government has halted further legal action in a dispute over a padel court in Pulomas. Governor Pramono Anung has vowed to act firmly against padel courts with incomplete permits that disrupt public order and will summon relevant parties to evaluate permits following residents’ complaints about noise. All padel courts operating in the capital must hold Persetujuan Bangunan Gedung (PBG).
