JAKARTA — The Jakarta Provincial Government is ready to implement work-from-home (WFH) arrangements for civil servants (Aparatur Sipil Negara, ASN) to anticipate the effects of global crises, including potential increases in fuel prices resulting from international conflicts.

Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that this step follows a directive from President Prabowo Subianto. “Regarding work from home, we will implement in DKI Jakarta whatever directive comes from the central government,” Pramono stated during an encounter at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

He noted that the global situation could impact gas and fuel availability, including in Indonesia. Pramono acknowledged that fuel prices have risen significantly, but assured that fuel supply in Jakarta remains secure. “Therefore, we are confident that panic buying will not occur,” he said.

President Prabowo had previously urged all regional administrations to take proactive measures in response to global uncertainty, including fuel consumption conservation. The government is focusing on energy and food security whilst promoting consumption efficiency as a precautionary measure. WFH is one option being considered to reduce mobility and fuel usage amid unstable global conditions.

“We must take proactive steps to conserve fuel consumption. We cannot assume that whatever happens, we remain safe. We are grateful we are safe, but we must make efforts to reduce our fuel consumption,” Prabowo stated.
