Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has revealed that he is preparing detailed regulations regarding the proposal for naming rights or hak penamaan for public transport halts and stations to be granted to political parties (parpol). Pramono assured that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) will not act hastily and is currently compiling the regulations comprehensively. “This naming rights initiative will certainly be governed by more detailed and specific rules,” stated Pramono at the Office of the Unit for Planning, Testing, and Measurement of the DKI Jakarta Roads Department, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/4). The proposal to commercialise naming rights for halts and stations to political entities such as parpol has been a topic of discussion in recent times. According to Pramono, Jakarta as a global city must open itself to various opportunities, including innovative steps to advance regional assets and income. “However, I do believe that Jakarta as a global city and a modern one must open itself to various things,” said Pramono. Pramono guaranteed that Jakarta’s openness to various parties will not compromise the rights of transport users or the aesthetics of urban planning. “The most important thing is to maintain comfort, security, and beauty. Of course, the naming rights granted must not disrupt the city’s beauty, and we will regulate that,” emphasised Pramono. Naming rights or the right to name halts or stations is one scheme implemented by the DKI Provincial Government to attract cooperation from private parties. Those who purchase the rights are entitled to attach their name to the public asset. Several examples exist at various Integrated Rapid Transit (MRT) stations and Transjakarta halts. For MRT stations, from Lebak Bulus to Bundaran HI, most have already sold their naming rights. Meanwhile, for Transjakarta halts, several have been purchased. One popular example is the music group D’Masiv, which bought naming rights for the Tj halt in Petukangan, Jalan Raya Ciledug Raya, South Jakarta.
