Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has unveiled plans to develop an underground access corridor that will connect four major hotels in the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout area with the Jakarta MRT transport system. The project is designed to facilitate pedestrian mobility whilst strengthening public transport integration in the central business district.

Pramono stated that the access will link several major hotels around the HI roundabout—Grand Hyatt, Pullman, Mandarin Oriental, and Kempinski—directly to MRT access points. With this connection, the public will no longer need to cross streets at ground level to move between locations.

“We will start immediately; hopefully by early next year it will be ready for use. Currently, construction has already begun, specifically connecting Grand Hyatt, Pullman, Mandarin, and Kempinski underground with direct access to the MRT,” Pramono said at the Jakarta Education Department office on Friday (27 February 2026).

According to Pramono, the underground access will make the HI roundabout area more orderly and pedestrian-friendly. Additionally, the integration is expected to increase comfort for residents and tourists operating in Jakarta’s central business district.

“So people from anywhere will no longer cross at ground level or walk on top; everything will be underground. The HI roundabout will be far more organised,” he stated.

He added that the development of this connectivity is part of the Jakarta provincial government’s efforts to strengthen Jakarta’s position as a global city with an integrated public transport system. Beyond MRT access, several area development and public space projects are currently underway to improve the quality of urban infrastructure.

Pramono hopes that the integration between buildings and public transport will encourage more residents to switch to using public transport, whilst simultaneously improving mobility comfort in the heart of the capital.
