Pramono Orders Demolition of Padel Courts Without Building Permits
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has ordered the demolition of padel courts that do not hold government-issued Building Approval Permits (PBG).
In total, there are 397 padel courts in Jakarta. The governor suspects that a number of these lack the required PBG.
“Buildings or padel courts without a Building Approval Permit will face cessation of activities, demolition, and revocation of business licences, as we have indications that there are — the exact figures will be confirmed by Citata (the Agency for Building Works, Spatial Planning, and Land Affairs) — padel courts that do not have permits or do not hold a PBG,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (24 February).
Pramono also officially banned the construction of new padel courts in residential zones, stating that new padel court developments must be located in commercial zones.
“It has been decided that new permits for the construction of padel courts will not be allowed in residential zones. All new developments must be in commercial zones,” Pramono said.
Meanwhile, padel courts that already hold a PBG but are situated in residential areas will have their operations restricted to a maximum of 8pm Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
He called on mayors and sub-district heads to negotiate with local residents.
“Negotiate with residents and set a maximum time limit — padel court operators must not operate beyond 8pm. Therefore, all padel courts in residential areas, even those that have already obtained a PBG, must close by 8pm at the latest,” he said.
