Pramono Opens Betawi Lebaran 2026, Invites Residents to Preserve Ancestral Traditions
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung opened the 2026 Betawi Lebaran celebration at Lapangan Banteng in Central Jakarta. In his speech, Pramono invited all residents to preserve Betawi ancestral traditions amid the changing times.
“Betawi Lebaran is not just an annual celebration, but a space for togetherness filled with the warmth of brotherhood,” said Pramono at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (11/4/2026).
He stated that various distinctive Betawi traditions such as nyorog, ngider, and anter-anteran must continue to be maintained as cultural heritage that strengthens intergenerational relationships. According to him, these values form an important identity for Jakarta as a diverse city.
Pramono also appreciated the organisation of Betawi Lebaran, initiated by the Majelis Kaum Betawi together with Bamus Betawi. He considered this activity as a manifestation of collaboration in nurturing and developing Betawi culture.
“Betawi culture is Jakarta’s primary identity. Therefore, its preservation is not only through arts, but also through values and traditions that live in society,” he said.
On that occasion, Pramono revealed the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s plans to revitalise the Museum M.H. Thamrin on Kenari Street. The museum will be made into a new icon of Jakarta as a form of respect for that Betawi figure.
In addition, the DKI Provincial Government is also preparing a scholarship programme through the LPDP Jakarta scheme. This programme is expected to open wider access to education, including for Betawi children to continue their studies abroad.
Pramono added that future Betawi Lebaran events will be made an annual agenda and have the potential to continue to be held at Lapangan Banteng. He assessed that the location has historical value as well as the capacity to accommodate large-scale cultural activities.
“If the figures unite, with the same spirit, then Betawi culture will advance even further,” he added.
