Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, emphasised that flood handling in Jakarta is being carried out swiftly by optimising all existing infrastructure. Pramono stated that the inundations caused by heavy rain can recede in a relatively short time.

“When the flood occurs, I immediately ordered all pumps to be activated. That’s why, when it rained from 5 to 8 a.m., relatively within 3-4 hours afterwards, the flood had already started to recede,” said Pramono at the Jakarta East Mayor’s office on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Pramono explained that the flood that briefly affected several areas in Jakarta was triggered by two main factors. First, high rainfall intensity in a short period. Second, ongoing river dredging at several points.

“The rainfall was indeed high. But no less important is the dredging that is currently being carried out massively in the rivers, including the Ciliwung River, Krukut River, and Pesanggrahan River,” he said.

He also highlighted the behaviour of residents who still dispose of rubbish indiscriminately, especially when there has been no rain for some time. According to him, this often causes blockages in water flow, leading to flooding.

“Don’t then, when there is no rain for two weeks, the rubbish clogs in several places. That’s what causes, even though the rainfall is not too high, flooding still occurs,” he explained.

Heavy rain was known to have hit the Jakarta area and surroundings on Monday (4/5) afternoon, triggering a rise in water levels at several monitoring posts and causing inundations in various areas. As of this afternoon, there were 80 RTs and 3 road sections still flooded.

Head of the Data and Information Centre (Kapusdatin) of the DKI Jakarta BPBD, Muhammad Yohan, stated that the latest flood data in Jakarta was recorded at 11.00 WIB. Water heights varied, from 10 centimetres (cm) to 1 metre.

“Currently, there are 80 RTs and 3 road sections that are still inundated. Water heights range between 10 to 100 centimetres (1 metre),” said Yohan in his statement on Tuesday (5/5).
