Pramono: MRT Aimed to Reach Monas by the End of 2026
Jakarta — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung targets the MRT Jakarta project to reach the Monumen Nasional (Monas) area by the end of 2026, or at the latest, the start of 2027. He stated this while attending Cap Go Meh celebrations in the Chinatown area of Glodok, West Jakarta, on Tuesday. ‘The MRT will soon be finished up to Monas, hopefully by the end of 2026 or early 2027,’ Pramono said. He added that MRT line development will not stop at Monas; the Jakarta Provincial Government also targets connecting the line to the Kota Tua area by early 2029. ‘I am confident that Kota Tua, Monas, and Harmoni will become TODs, or places that will develop for Jakarta,’ Pramono said. The construction of the MRT to Monas and Kota Tua is also linked to the plan by the Jakarta Provincial Government to build the Peranakan Chinese Museum on Jalan Keadilan in Glodok. The museum will not only preserve history but also serve as an educational space and a cultural tourism destination. As a result, the presence of the museum will make the Glodok area busier and more vibrant. He believes that easier transport access will attract visitors, including foreign tourists from abroad such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. ‘If we present the Peranakan Chinese Museum on Jalan Keadilan and tidy up the site, I am sure people will come, including foreign tourists,’ he said.
