Pramono emphasises importance of synergy between Islamic scholars and government leaders to maintain conducive conditions in Jakarta
This was conveyed during his attendance at the Ramadan Safari 1447 H/2026 M activity alongside Islamic scholars and government leaders across Jakarta at Pondok Pesantren Al Hamid, Jalan Cilangkap Baru, Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Saturday.
“I invite the Islamic scholars, religious leaders, PWNU, and the broader Al Hamid Islamic Boarding School community to continue collaborating to maintain Jakarta’s conducive, safe, and comfortable atmosphere for all,” he said.
Pramono also noted that the Ramadan Safari represents a tradition that has taken deep root in the lives of Indonesian Muslims. “This activity manifests the strengthening of religious values in weaving Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah), national brotherhood (ukhuwah wathaniyah), and human brotherhood (ukhuwah basyariyah) amidst a pluralistic society,” he said.
He added that Jakarta, as a city with high levels of diversity, bears significant responsibility in maintaining collective security and tranquility. “Moderate Islamic values (tawasuth), tolerance (tasamuh), and the spirit of pluralism that Nahdlatul Ulama has long championed form an important foundation in realising Jakarta as a Global City grounded in faith and cultural wisdom,” Pramono stated.
However, Pramono acknowledged that in today’s era, various challenges persist, including intolerance, the spread of misinformation, and identity-based provocation. “In facing such situations, we greatly need the support of Islamic scholars as heirs of the prophets to calm the atmosphere and strengthen brotherhood,” he said.
To that end, he committed to strengthening open communication and mutual respect between Islamic scholars and government officials. This synergy is regarded as an important foundation in maintaining peace and harmony in Jakarta.
Pramono outlined three principal initiatives as the foundation for maintaining peace and harmony in Jakarta. First, the Jakarta provincial government plans to organise a commemoration of Betawi Islamic scholars annually each July in conjunction with Jakarta’s anniversary celebration. He added that the activity will be centred at Monas as a form of tribute to the scholars and figures who have served the capital.
Second, he encouraged revitalising the Qur’an Recitation Competition (MTQ) at grassroots level, starting from neighbourhood associations (RT), resident associations (RW), villages, subdistricts, municipalities/regencies, and provincial level to compete for the Governor’s Trophy before champions advance to the national stage.
Third, Pramono also invited all segments of society to jointly safeguard Jakarta amidst intensifying global dynamics. “Let us protect the steadfastness, comfort, safety, and happiness of Jakarta’s residents. This is our collective responsibility,” he concluded.
