Pramono Breaks Ground for Revitalisation of Two Markets in Jakarta, Targeted for Completion in 2027
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officiated the groundbreaking for the revitalisation of two markets, namely Pasar Gardu Asem in Central Jakarta and Pasar Kramat Jaya in North Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026). The construction of both markets is targeted for completion in 2027. “I have approved the revitalisation and improvement of several markets, including here today at this location (Pasar Gardu Asem),” Pramono stated at Pasar Gardu Asem on Monday. He also targets that all markets in the capital in the future can be arranged better, cleaner, and more modern, including a shift to digital transaction systems. Pramono also requested that all payment systems be conducted using QRIS for greater ease and security. “With digitalisation, this can reduce pickpocketing. Because pickpockets need cash,” he said. Meanwhile, Perumda Pasar Jaya’s General Director Agus Himawan explained that the construction of both markets is funded through Regional Capital Participation (PMD). Pasar Kramat Jaya received a PMD allocation in 2016 amounting to Rp 10.2 billion, while Pasar Gardu Asem used PMD from 2017 amounting to Rp 10.6 billion. Pasar Gardu Asem has held Building Construction Approval (PBG) since 18 November 2025, while Pasar Kramat Jaya has had it since 23 April 2024. For the completion target, Pasar Kramat Jaya is estimated to be finished by the end of January 2027 with a construction duration of about eight months. Meanwhile, Pasar Gardu Asem is targeted to be completed by the end of March 2027 or around eleven months of work. During the construction period, traders at Pasar Gardu Asem will be relocated to a temporary holding area. “We ensure that during the construction of Pasar Gardu Asem, the traders are still facilitated to continue their business activities through a temporary holding area that we are currently placing at Pasar Nangka Bungur, about 800 metres from the Pasar Gardu Asem location,” Agus said.
