Pramono Attends Melasti Ceremony at Pura Segara Cilincing, Says Jakarta Is Home for All Faiths
Jakarta — Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung described the ogoh-ogoh parade held ahead of Nyepi Day as a concrete manifestation of the commitment to make Jakarta a comfortable home for all people of faith.
He made this statement whilst attending the Melasti ceremony at Pura Segara Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
“As we all know, the ogoh-ogoh parade is a genuine expression of our collective commitment to making Jakarta a comfortable home for all people of faith, whilst also serving as an open space for the preservation of culture,” said Pramono.
Pramono was accompanied by his wife, Endang Nugrahani. He wore a dark blue traditional Balinese headscarf (udeng) and sat cross-legged in the ceremonial area alongside Hindu worshippers.
The ceremony continued with performances of traditional Balinese dance, Tari Sekar Jagat, accompanied by Balinese gamelan music.
Shortly thereafter, Vice Minister of Population and Family Development and Deputy Head of BKKBN (National Population and Family Planning Board), Isyana Bagoes Oka, also attended, wearing a white kebaya and immediately participating in the activities.
In his remarks, Pramono also hoped that the Nyepi celebrations would proceed smoothly for Hindu communities in Jakarta.
“I truly hope that the series of Melasti ceremonies in welcoming the Holy Day of Nyepi, the Saka New Year 1948, for all Hindu communities in Jakarta will go well, and that Catur Brata Penyepian (the four-fold vow of Nyepi) will be properly observed,” he said.
According to Kompas.com observations at around 09:25 western Indonesian time, the temple area began to fill with worshippers coming to participate in the series of self-purification rituals. Several tour buses arrived in succession, bringing groups of worshippers from various areas around Jakarta.
Men wore traditional headwear (udeng), white shirts, and cloth wrapped around their waists. Women wore white kebaya with sashes draped around their waists.
