Pramono Anung: Jakarta Will Remain Open to Arrivals After Eid, No Enforcement Sweeps
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has reiterated that Jakarta will remain open to people from other regions who come to seek work after Eid al-Fitr and will not conduct enforcement sweeps or screening of newcomers. ‘Jakarta will stay open to everyone. I will not order enforcement operations or screening for arrivals. So Jakarta remains open to anyone,’ Pramono told reporters on Sunday, 8 March. Although the city is likely to become more crowded as migrants arrive to seek a livelihood, there are still job opportunities in Jakarta. ‘The opportunity to work in Jakarta remains open. But in the current global context, with wars in various regions such as Ukraine and Russia, and tensions in the Middle East involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, we must exercise utmost caution,’ he said. He added that the Jakarta provincial government is focusing on readiness for Ramadan and Idul Fitri, particularly regarding the availability of staple foods for the public. ‘As part of welcoming Ramadan and Idul Fitri, Jakarta has prepared in advance, especially staple necessities such as rice, meat, red chili, curly chili, and so on.’ He said. ‘According to him, the surplus stock is expected to help stabilise prices in markets during Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr.’ ‘Praise be to God, stock in Jakarta is safe, even more than enough. Hopefully prices will not rise because the availability of goods is abundant,’ he concluded. ‘New arrivals who wish to seek a livelihood in Depok are asked to prepare guarantees of opportunity to work.’ ‘Governor Pramono Anung invites arrivals from other regions to live in Jakarta after Eid; he will not implement enforcement sweeps.’ ‘New arrivals expected after Eid in 2025 are projected at around 10,000 to 15,000 people.’ ‘Governor Pramono Anung does not plan enforcement policies for newcomers during this year’s Eid season.’
