Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo is confident that Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) will become a symbol of Jakarta’s future because this world-class stadium has a strategic location, situated near the family entertainment centre at Ancol and economic activity at Tanjung Priok port.

“I am convinced that Jakarta’s future lies in this location,” he said whilst opening the JIS Ramadan Festival 2026 in Jakarta on Sunday.

He noted that the location is vital. Accordingly, the Jakarta Provincial Government, through PT Jakpro as a Regional Government-Owned Enterprise (BUMD), is connecting the stadium to the Ancol district through the development of a pedestrian bridge (JPO) at Ancol.

The primary challenge in the JIS area during Persija Jakarta football matches, Indonesian national team competitions, international matches, and international concerts is traffic congestion, he explained.

Therefore, he continued, the first task to be undertaken is connecting the JIS area with Ancol through the pedestrian bridge.

According to him, with the pedestrian bridge in place, spectators can park their vehicles in the Ancol area, which has capacity for tens of thousands of vehicles, both cars and motorcycles.

Additionally, to serve spectators using public transport from various parts of Jakarta to reach the JIS area, adequate public transport facilities are needed.

A dedicated KRL station will be built beneath the stadium, connected to other stations in the city centre.

“This will be a solution to the traffic congestion that frequently occurs during events at this stadium,” he said.

He stated that JIS is an international-standard stadium built not only for football matches but also for concerts as entertainment for Jakarta residents.

“JIS is a source of pride and an international-standard stadium that can be widely utilised by Jakarta residents,” he said.

Previously, PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda) or Jakpro stated that the construction of the pedestrian bridge connecting JIS with the Ancol tourism area incorporates the philosophy of Betawi local wisdom, inspired by traditional Betawi headdress design.

“The JIS–Ancol pedestrian bridge is inspired by traditional Betawi headdress that symbolises unity, with the Gigi Balang ornamental pattern symbolising honesty and courage, and the tiger stripe pattern representing strength,” said Director General of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda), Iwan Takwin in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that this approach ensures visual harmony of the area whilst affirming Jakarta’s identity as a modern global city that remains rooted in local values. According to him, with the unified design concept, the pedestrian bridge is not merely a crossing route but an element of the area’s experience.

“The JIS–Ancol pedestrian bridge design adopts the main visual elements of the stadium, creating a unified spatial flow from the JIS area to the Ancol waterfront,” he said.

Furthermore, at night the pedestrian bridge will be equipped with an integrated lighting system that works in conjunction with the stadium’s lighting scheme, creating an iconic visual landscape in north Jakarta.
