Metro Police Chief Irjen Asep Edi Suheri and Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung conducted a Ramadan safari at Pondok Pesantren Al Hamid Putra in Cipayung, East Jakarta, attended by various religious leaders.

During the event at the Islamic boarding school on Saturday, 28 February 2026, Pramono, dressed in white traditional attire (koko), sat alongside Metro Police Chief Irjen Asep Edi Suheri. Also present were East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin, East Jakarta Metro Police Commander Kombes Alfian, and other officials.

Pramono proposed that a commemorative event honouring Betawi Islamic scholars be held annually during Jakarta’s anniversary celebration in June. The event would take place at the National Monument (Monas) as a tribute to the scholars and prominent figures who have contributed to the capital city.

“I truly wish for the Jakarta Provincial Government to hold a commemoration of Betawi and Jakarta Islamic scholars in welcoming Jakarta’s anniversary each June, to be held at Monas. The Jakarta Provincial Government will serve as the host,” Pramono said in his remarks.

According to him, the activity is important for honouring and praying for Jakarta’s scholars and prominent figures, including national figures of Betawi origin such as Mohammad Husni Thamrin.

Additionally, Pramono expressed his desire to revive the Qur’an Recitation Competition (Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an or MTQ) starting from the grassroots level. He hopes the MTQ could be conducted from neighbourhood (RT) level up to the provincial level, with winners competing for the Jakarta Governor’s trophy before advancing to the national level.

“I truly want MTQ to start again from the lowest level, from the neighbourhood level, sub-district, village, district, city, to the provincial level,” he said.

During the occasion, Pramono also highlighted the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, which has rekindled global tensions. He reminded the public that the world is currently in an unstable condition and urged all residents to maintain Jakarta’s peace and security.

“Today, Israel has launched an attack on Iran, and Iran has already retaliated. Certainly, the world’s condition is not good. Let us all protect Jakarta together because this is our shared responsibility,” he stated.

Pramono stressed that security, comfort, and tranquillity in Jakarta must be a shared priority, especially amid an uncertain global situation. He hoped that the public would maintain unity and a conducive atmosphere during Ramadan through Eid al-Fitr.
