Pramono Allows Use of Jakarta Government Facilities for World Cup Screenings, Provided They Do Not Disrupt Work
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has opened the possibility of holding public screenings of the World Cup at DKI Jakarta Provincial Government facilities. However, he cautioned that the activities must not disrupt working hours, whether for civil servants or members of the public going about their activities. “Firstly, many of our regional-owned enterprises and local government units have asked to be permitted to hold live broadcasts of the World Cup,” Pramono said after inspecting the former BPSDM land in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Thursday. Nevertheless, Pramono considered the match schedule a distinct challenge because most games are held during working hours. “The problem is that the day and time fall during people’s working hours. The most important thing is not to disturb people who are working, because the time is working hours,” he said. According to Pramono, many matches take place at 9 AM, 10 AM, and 11 AM Western Indonesian Time. Therefore, the organisation of public screenings must be managed properly so as not to disrupt productivity. “Most are at 9, 10, or 11, so this becomes a specific issue if not managed well,” he stated. Even so, Pramono is in principle providing space for the public and civil servants to enjoy the world’s biggest football event. “But in principle, I will provide space. The public, civil servants, and the community also need to make the most of the World Cup,” he remarked. Pramono believes this World Cup has extra appeal because it is not only related to sport, but also to the developing global situation. “In my view, it is becoming more interesting because it is not solely a matter of football, but with the current geopolitical situation, it becomes even more engaging,” he added.
