Sleman Regency is preparing to welcome a new face for tourism, as the Prambanan area will soon feature a unique destination in the form of a cable car tourism attraction titled Prambanan Heritage Skyline. This project, valued at around Rp200 billion, is touted as Indonesia’s first aerial tourism icon that combines natural panoramas and cultural heritage richness.

The Sleman Regency Government is beginning to finalise the realisation of the project. After obtaining principal approval from the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) government, the initial construction stages are underway, including land completion and fulfilment of various technical permits.

Head of the Sleman Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP), Triana Wahyuningsih, stated that the cable car tourism development is an important investment for Sleman Regency. According to her, the chosen location is highly strategic, especially since the eastern part of Sleman still needs a push for development to enhance tourism potential and the regional economy.

“So that there will be more diverse tourism destinations later,” she said on Thursday (23/4/2026).

Triana explained that the project investors have obtained Land Use Activity Suitability (KKPR) for three classifications of the Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification (KBLI). Currently, the ongoing process is land completion as part of the initial construction stages.

She assessed that the Prambanan area holds a very strategic position. In addition to being part of the National Strategic Tourism Area (KSPN), this region is also supported by infrastructure access, including the Prambanan toll gate, which has the potential to become a tourism hub connecting DIY and Central Java.
